Ayurveda is the ancient Indian science of medicine and lifestyle. Understanding Bowen from an Ayurvedic Perspective is a 2-day workshop with Farida Irani that considers how Bowen therapy can work based on Ayurvedic principles.
This workshop explores:
- What is Ayurveda? The history of Ayurveda.
- The Panch Mahabutas (five basic elements) and how Bowen moves can balance these elements
- Body types, constitution elements, doshas, and the effect of Bowen on these humors, and how they return you to the blueprint you are born with
- Assessments through body types to assist your consultations as a practitioner
- Breath and its effects on Bowen
- how Bowen works from the Ayurveda Perspective
- Bowen as a vibration therapy – Marma Chikitsa
- the effect of Bowen on the marmas (pranic centres), chakras (the vedic system) and nadis (subtle channels)
- Bowtech procedures linked to the marmas, chakras and nadis are identified
- the relation of Bowtech Ease to Ayurvedic Aromatherapy is discussed
Understanding Bowen from an Ayurvedic Perspective is a 2-day workshop.
What have past participants said about this workshop?
The thoroughness of the Bowen technique is continuously astonishing, and what makes it even more interesting is seeing how it can correlate to Ayurveda’s ancient teachings about how systems work in Nature and in health. As a Practitioner, Instuctor and Mentor in both disciplines, Farida Irani confidentially takes all her students on a journey of discovery in a wonderfully accessible and meaningful way. Certainly, a class to consider.

It was such a privilege to attend Farida’s course on Bowen and Ayurveda in Toronto, Canada. Adding this ancient knowledge and perspective to our work created a more expanded sense of wholeness to our way of approaching balance in the body.

I attended Bowen from an Ayurvedic Perspective in 2019 not really knowing what to expect, especially as I’ve always been taught that Bowen was a stand-alone modality. Firstly, Farida presented simple and clear elements of Ayurveda, giving a basic understanding of some key principles. At this point, I was already noticing similarities with Bowen, such as positions of certain moves and respect for the body’s own intelligence. Farida then continued to recap and demonstrate the Bowen technique. With every set of moves, she was able to point out how this correlated to the Ayurvedic principles she had outlined. Although I was now viewing these moves from the view of two different modalities, the similarities between them both kept resurfacing. The surprising outcome of this workshop for me was that by taking on the fresh perspective of how Ayurveda recognises and responds holistically, I came to a more extensive understanding and appreciation of Bowen.
